Engagement photo session in Wilmington, Delaware

Are you looking for a location for your engagement photos in Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania? Wilmington is in the middle of Tri-States, just 45 miles south from Philadelphia.

The first location for the engagement pictures in Wilmington if you love animals and nature can be a historic Rockford Park, which is located in the center of Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. The variety of birds and wildlife make this place a main location for nature lovers. The couple wanted their black Labrador Retriever Lincoln to be the part of their engagement portraits so Rockford Park was a perfect spot for this pictures. Large, grassy meadow slopes upward to a knoll overlooking the Brandywine River. There are two bridges that create nice arches and leading lines for photography.

But the second location for engagement pictures in Wilmington is even better.

If you want to find a unique and interesting location for your engagement photos in Delaware, The Marian Coffin Gardens can be a perfect location for this purpose. It is a quiet place on the grounds of empty Gibraltar estate located in the center of Wilmington, Delaware.

Marian Coffin was a creative and ambitious lady who was very passionate for landscape design. She was one of four women who were accepted in the entire Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After graduation she struggled to find the job at any of the architectural companies in New York City because landscape architecture was one for men at that time. But she never gave up on her dream to become successful in this sphere and she decided to open her own firm. Marian started with small suburban flower gardens and she became very popular because of her fresh, dynamic and creative designs.

In 1916 the owner of the Gibraltar Estate Hugh Sharp hired one of the first female landscape architect Marian Coffin to create a master piece in his gardens. Coffin designed theories of terraces coming from the estate down to the flower garden by a curving marble staircase. Each terrace has a unique theme or element, which create focal points in each area of the garden. There are statues which were brought from all over the world. This place is a proof how passion and diligence of one woman can break standard gender roles in pursuit of her dreams.

After the death go owners, the estate slowly deteriorated and had to be demolished by 1998.Preservation Delaware, with the support of community and the Sharp family, saved the entire estate and in 1999 restored the gardens and keep maintaining them today.

The Marian Coffin Gardens are open to public all year round and it is free of charge to go there and enjoy the creation of the talented woman. You don't need a permit for photos there. The address is 1405 Greenhill Ave, Wilmington, DE, 19806.
